Many are dreading their E-ZPass bill with congestion pricing now in effect. It may even have some planning a new commute.
News 12 got a cost breakdown of different commuting options from our partners at Investopedia.
Caleb Silver, editor in chief at Investopedia, says in general commuting into Manhattan is expensive no matter how you look at it. Looking at the cost of different train options Silver says, "On the LIRR coming from the big stops, Great Neck, Hicksville or Babylon, you are looking at $30 roundtrip during peak hours. Metro North, White Plains, or Stamford, you are looking at $27.50 roundtrip during peak hours. And then NJ Transit Ridgewood, Summit, Rahway you are looking at $22 roundtrip. If you are driving in now in congestion pricing coming in over one of the bridges or tunnels or you are looking at $19.61 for the tunnel and then to enter the zone, but you still have to park."
News 12 is working to help you save. First, remember to get that E-ZPass connected to your license plate. Transportation officials say otherwise you could end up being charged more.
News 12's Kristie Reeter found some credit cards give you extra points for toll purchases. Lyft also announced that for the rest of January, every time you pay the new $1.50 congestion fee, they will send you a $1.50 credit. To get that credit the trip needs to start below 61st street.
