The Academy for College Prep & Career Exploration in Flatbush has not seen a full-scale theatre production since 1994.

Thanks to Marlin Slack, the school's artistic director, the arts program is finally back up and running.

“Seeing students excited about literacy, excited about playwright, excited about creating a piece of theatre... That's when I know," says Slack.

“Exception To The Rule” premieres at the Erasmus campus on Thursday. There will be six performances through Saturday.

While working on the play, stage manager Mia says the crew has not only become her friends, but also family.
