Thousands gathered Saturday to embrace their natural locks and celebrate diversity.

The fourth annual Curlfest was held in Prospect Park.

"To be somewhere where you see everyone with the same type of hair and the same type of background is pretty empowering," says Pennsylvania resident Alexis Peele.

Long Island resident Danielle Pierre visited the event for the first time to look for encouragement.

" I just knew if I came here I'd see people who have the same hair and just be like...motivation," she says.

A big draw for the event was a goodie bag of premiere hair products, which most at the event say are expensive or hard to find in their neighborhoods.
