Trees came down in Bensonhurst on Monday as strong winds and steady rain from a coastal storm continued to move through the city.

Not far away, another tree came down near 84th Street and 17th Avenue. That tree landed partly in the street and caused minor damage to a white car. Neighbors told News 12 they had been calling for weeks to have it removed, saying it looked dead and they were not surprised it finally fell during this storm.
The National Weather Service says a coastal flood warning and wind advisory remain in effect through Monday afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph.
Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency for New York City, saying crews are standing by to respond to flooding or storm damage if needed.
Officials are urging people to stay alert, move cars away from trees and give themselves extra time if they are heading out.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later Monday as the storm moves out of the area.
