Winds gusting to speeds of 50 mph during Monday night's fast-moving storm downed trees, branches and power lines across the Hudson Valley and knocked out power to thousands of residents and businesses.

One particularly hard-hit neighborhood was in Yonkers where a transformer explosion left families in the dark for most of the night on Glenwood Avenue, between Park and Palisade avenues. Crews worked overnight and fixed the problem.

Over in Greenburgh by the Crossroads Shopping Center, a busy section of Tarrytown Road was shut down until about 6:30 a.m. Crews had to fix a snapped utility pole and crosswalk signals that had been knocked off a stand.

On Harrison Street in West Harrison, strong winds brought down branches on top of a car, smashing right through the front and back windshields. Debris could be seen scattered throughout the neighborhood, where a number of homes lost power.

Crews are also made repairs to a broken telephone pole on Tarrytown Road at Manhattan Avenue in Greenburgh. It is unknown what time the pole will be replaced.
