The City Council met with the Taxi and Limousine Commission to discuss new legislation aimed at helping taxi drivers.

A new bill introduced by Council Member Amanda Farias would allow for-hire vehicles to display digital advertising in their cars, something she says will help drivers who may be struggling to make ends meet.

"The revenue sharing model outlined in this bill will allow drivers to truly reap the benefits of ad revenue,” said Farias. “They will earn a percentage of every ad that plays on the tablets with little to no extra work for them during their shifts.”

Other bills discussed today include legislation increasing the license period for a taxicab from one year to two years and legislation that would require e-hail app provides to pay taxi drivers at least the same amount they would get for the metered rate of pay from a traditional street hail.
