NYC DOE wraps up in-school vaccine pop-ups for kids 5 to 11

Monday was the last day for the New York City Department of Education's in-school COVID-19 vaccine pop-ups.
Thirty schools in the Bronx and 53 schools in Brooklyn offered the children’s Pfizer vaccine Monday, with some schools open from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and some from 12:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.
All children were required to arrive at the vaccine site with a parent or legal guardian, or an adult that is approved by the parent if the parent calls ahead to give consent in advance. There was also an online consent form.
The mayor had said Monday morning that 62,000 kids 5 to 11 years old were vaccinated in the city with 22,500 - more than a third of those doses - given out at these school sites.
Families said having the shot available at their kid's school made their lives easier. De Blasio also said that there will be more vaccine events at schools in the future.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that 10 of the state’s mass vaccination sites, including the Bay Eden Senior Center in the Bronx and Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, are now giving out the shot to kids in the approved age range.
