A woman living on Tompkins Avenue says she's sick of paying rent on an apartment that has been flooded for months.
Shonette Austin says she has been dealing with the leak since August. She says NYCHA originally came to check her slanted cabinets months ago, which they removed and still haven't fully replaced.
"I thought I would have to start swimming to get to my bedroom," says Austin.
Austin says they then tried cutting off water to the kitchen sink, but that hasn't stopped the leak. She says the leak makes it nearly impossible to cook for her five children.
Austin says she had to call out of work as a home health aide Friday due to the issue. NYCHA cleaning crews were seen trying to soak up the water.
NYCHA says in a statement that its staff are scheduled to replace the broken, deteriorated piping today and that they'll schedule plastering and painting repairs at a later date.
