New Yorkers held a fiery celebration in Midtown Thursday, setting face masks on fire and burning them away.
The party celebrated the mask mandate being lifted in most indoor and outdoor settings in New York on Wednesday.
"Total liberation from masks so we can get back to being the 24/7, 365 city that attracted people from throughout the world," said Republican mayoral candidate and Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said New Yorkers celebrate getting vaccinated and throwing away their masks.
