A Park Slope toy store is shutting down after more than two decades in the neighborhood.
Lulu’s Cuts and Toys, on Park Slope’s 5th Avenue, sells everything from robotic cars, stuffed animals and plush toys to haircuts for kids.
Owner Brigette Pratt opened the store 22 years ago, and it quickly became a staple for those in the Park Slope community.
“My daughter Lulu was three at the time, and she always reminded me when it was time to get her hair cut, and looked around and decided to open a place,” said Pratt. “It was something that just grew stronger and stronger and stronger.”
Lulu’s plans to shut down next month.
“After the pandemic, it definitely became a little more difficult competing with big box stores,” said Pratt. Their discounts were so astronomical I couldn’t even compete with it.”
Pratt says the toy shop also struggled to bring in enough business for her to hire the proper number of employees.
