Transformer fire briefly knocks out power for Riverdale residents

Officials responded Wednesday to a transformer fire that left several residents in Riverdale without power Wednesday morning.

Officials responded Wednesday to a transformer fire that left several residents in Riverdale without power Wednesday morning.
Two blocks on Independence Avenue were blocked off due to an accident involving a fallen transformer.
According to Con Edison, four overhead crews were sent to the area to repair the damages. The fallen transformer on the ground along with the downed power lines.
The fire department says the transformer caught on fire earlier and caused a 10–15-gallon fuel spill.
As of 12 p.m., less than five customers remained without power compared to Con Edison's report of more than 400 customers earlier.
According to Con Ed, the power in the Riverdale area is estimated to be restored around 10:30 p.m.
