A report from Transportation Alternatives shows the most dangerous intersections across the city. They say there are 118 intersections where five or more New Yorkers have been killed or seriously injured in the past five years.
The
report ranked Flatbush Avenue and Avenue H as one of the most dangerous and obstructed intersections in Brooklyn, with eight deaths or serious injuries since 2022.
Transportation Alternatives says other top-ranking dangerous intersections in Brooklyn include:
- 37th Street and 3rd Avenue
- Ave H and Flatbush Avenue
- Jamaica Avenue and Bushwick Avenue
- Linden Boulevard
- Ashford Street
Jack Greenwood, a research associate for Transportation Alternatives, worked on the report and says the organization is pushing for daylighting - removing parking around intersections - to resolve some of these dangers.
"So as you can see a little bit in this intersection right now, you do have cars parked up into the intersection, which makes things pretty dangerous for people who are trying to cross the street," said Greenwood.
Transportation Alternatives is pushing for legislation that would require universal daylighting at intersections across the city.
