Transportation union calls for bulletproof partitions to keep bus operators safe
The compartment was created after a Philadelphia bus operator was shot and killed in 2023.

The Transport Workers Union of America is calling for bulletproof driving compartments in buses to keep bus operators safe in New York City and other cities across the United States.
The Union hosted a ballistics demonstration on Tuesday where S.W.A.T. officers fired at mock-up compartments. This is believed to be the first of its kind in the country.
“We collaborated with the union on a protective cockpit installed in buses to enhance operator safety and will continue to work together as technology and innovation inform best practices," said Senior Vice President of NYC Transit Frank Annicaro in a statement.
