Neighbors in Bensonhurst are asking the city to cut down a tree that they believe could be dangerous to pedestrians.
They say that the branches falling from a tree on 74th Street are huge and that it has been a problem for years.
Residents say that the tree is old and dying, with a colony of carpenter ants living in and eating away at it. They say they concerned that falling branches could potentially hit a person.
"There are a lot of elderly people that come up and down the block," says Matthew Settanni, of Bensonhurst. "Someone's going to get seriously injured, possibly killed."
The New York City Parks Department says that it will be happy to examine and address any issues with the tree.
