Trinidadian Bakery receives James Beard Award
A&A Bake & Double and Roti Shop has received the James Beard Award, one of the country's most prestigious restaurant awards.
The Fulton Street establishment, owned by husband and wife Noel and Geeta Brown, is one of five restaurants in the United States to receive the award. In May, the two plan to travel to Chicago to accept the award in person.
The Browns say they are excited and proud to be honored this way. At their bakery, the couple serves the Trinidadian foods they grew up with. A&A is known for its doubles -- a breakfast of deep-fried flatbread stuffed with chickpeas.
