4h agoTrumbull Library has created a list of transgender books in honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility.
The library stresses the importance of transgender children and teens seeing themselves normalized in literature.
The library has categorized the books by age group.
The list includes everything from children's picture books and children's chapter books to teen fiction and teen nonfiction.
International Transgender Day of Visibility is dedicated to celebrating the contributions of transgender people to society while raising awareness of the discrimination they face.
It was proclaimed an official day in the U.S. in 2021.
Trumbull Youth Service Library Chelsie Labrecque says she has also put books on display during Black History Month and Women's History Month.
"Trumbull is a diverse area. So it's encouraging to know that people are learning about other experiences and growing that sense of community already," Labrecque says.
