Despite the chilly weather and heavy winds, more than 100 runners showed up in Throgs Neck to lace up their shoes for their 28th annual Turkey Trot 5K run.
The run is hosted by the Throggs Neck Benevolent Association in loving memory of Geraldine Crowley-Crorkin, who passed away from cancer in 1995.
"She was an angel, always smiling, and always had the best advice for people, lit up the room when she walked in," said Eileen Crowley, Geraldine's sister. "To do this every year just really keeps her memory alive, and we honor her. And I'm so appreciative that the TNBA does this, this run, and I'm so appreciative of everyone who comes out for it."
Proceeds will go toward helping out Bronx residents struggling with serious illnesses and other medical expenses.
