Officials in Nutley say a magnet fisherman pulled an unexploded military shell over the weekend from beneath the Passaic River.
The incident happened Saturday around 3:45 p.m.
The fisherman notified police, who cordoned off Park Avenue, Route 21, River Road and the Lyndhurst Bridge until the bomb squad arrived.
Police say the military ordinance was safely discarded by Essex County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad.
The shell, believed to be live, was then secured and removed to a safe location to be detonated.
