Tariffs are officially back in order for Mexico and Canada.
On Thursday morning, President Donald Trump took it to Truth Social to share that the imposed tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods will be back in play starting Tuesday.
Also on the lineup for March 4, another 10% increase in tariffs for the already standing taxes on Chinese goods.
Looking at the timeline, a 10% tariff on all goods imported from China took effect, as planned, on Feb. 4. The 25% tariff for Mexican and Canadian goods was delayed. But now, they are back. According to President Trump, additional tariffs will be added again in April after Tuesday.
With the back-and-forth from The Whitehouse, a Mexican restaurant manger says he is fearful for what is to come.
"This is like playing games for me," says Ricardo Gonzalez. "When I heard that news, I felt so happy, but after that, he was supposed to change it to march. If the products going up, we have to raise our prices."
Now, he wonders how his restaurant will survive yet another uptick in prices, not only for the restaurant he manages, but for the average shopper as well.
"Avocados, everybody knows they come from Mexico. Vegetables, tomatillo, even beans, corn, sodas, too, and many more!"
A concern for not only Gonzalez, but also his customers? The quality.
Stephanie Carlos believes the tariffs will backfire.
"The quality of the food that they import is better," she says.
Gonzalez tells News12 that he hopes the president understands who these taxes are truly going to affect.
"If the companies raise the prices, we got to do the same thing. And who is going to pay? Everybody!"
