A building in Bushwick has been vacated after a fire that critically injured a firefighter and displaced several families.

A vacate order is now posted at 1133 Lafayette Ave. and the building next door at 1131.

The FDNY says the fire broke out around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, quickly spreading across multiple floors of the four-story residential building. During the response, a firefighter suffered a medical episode and went into cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The Red Cross says it is assisting at least 20 people, including children, with emergency housing, financial aid and other support.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
