Vegan festival brings food, music and meditation to Brooklyn
A Black Vegan Festival is happening in Brooklyn this weekend for the first time.
Music, food, yoga, meditation, presentations and more were all part of what organizers call "Black Veg Fest."
The festival is being produced with the help of the nonprofit, Grassroots Artists Movement, a group dedicated to addressing the socioeconomic and political issues affecting the African-American and Latino communities.
The discussions ranged from animal rights and going vegan to topics such as racism, sexism, xenophobia and more.
The event also teaches people how to cook without animal products.
Vegans from around the borough came out to enjoy the day and eat plenty of food.
"When I heard about an event specifically like Black Veg Fest - that was really exciting," said Kameke Brown of Bed-Stuy. "To be able to go to an animal rights of that and see people who look like me and to hear their perspectives on the animal rights issues."
Organizers hope people of all races come out to enjoy the event.
