As the summer season gets underway, veterinarians are reminding pet owners to be mindful of their furry friends' safety.
During the summer months, it's important to know the range of your pet, and to keep track of how they're breathing and acting. Veterinarians tend to see more animals overheat or even pass out during the summer.
According to 1-800-AMBU-VET, the No. 1 safety tip is to keep plenty of water handy. Walks in the glaring heat should be kept to a minimum, and homes should be kept cool. Pets should not be left locked up in hot apartments with no fans or air conditioning.
Experts also say it's important to never leave a pet unattended by the pool. And cat owners should make sure screens are secure so their kitties don't fall out of windows.
