Police say they have identified the victim pulled from a car that plummeted into the waters of Gerritsen Beach as 31-year-old James Miro.
Neighbors say Miro worked at a local barber shop and that they are saddened to hear of his death.
Police say Miro, of Brooklyn, was pronounced dead when a dive team pulled his body from the water yesterday.
Investigators responded to the call at Gerritsen and Lois avenues just after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Surveillance video from a home appears to capture the car speeding by just before 4:50 a.m. Monday.
The car may have then gone through a barrier and into the Shell Bank Creek.
