The NYPD is conducting an internal investigation after a video has surfaced purportedly showing another officer using a chokehold on a suspect.
Police say they approached Jahmiel Cuffee on Malcom X Boulevard on Wednesday for a possible marijuana violation.
The video of the incident shows people screaming as officers hold the 32-year-old by the neck. Officers bring him down to the ground, Cuffee is subdued and taken into custody.
Witnesses say they saw one of the officers kick Cuffee, but in the video, the view is obstructed.
Cuffee was taken to Woodhull Hospital. He was not seriously hurt.
He has been charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and tampering with evidence.
