The Department of Education has confirmed to News 12 Village Academy in Queens along with another elementary school have been closed due to COVID-19 outbreaks.
The DOE confirmed to News 12 Village Academy in Queens will be closed from Nov. 11 - 20 after "an investigation found evidence of transmission within the school."
Students and staff are expected to return to school Nov. 22.
The second school, P.S. 166, was also confirmed to have a COVID outbreak this week. In a statement, the DOE said:
"This is the first school closure since September but we stand ready to support – every student at P.S. 166 has a device so they can engage in live remote learning, and we are working closely with school community. P.S. 166 in Queens will be directed to close for 10 days beginning on Nov. 10, after an investigation found evidence of transmission within the school. It was closed on Tuesday."
Officials say parents were notified the same day as the outbreak was spotted. They add students and staff may return to school on Monday, Nov. 22 as well.
