Dozens of volunteers armed with paint brushes set out to brighten up concrete barriers along the Brooklyn Queens Expressway on Saturday.
The city's Department of Transportation started the project as a way to spruce up several locations.
The agency recruits volunteers to help, even those who many not think they are artistically inclined.
The artwork will be on display for walkers, joggers, bicyclists and drivers to check out until next spring, when a new crop of volunteers and artists will come and paint a new design.
