Many Bronx residents worked hard to improve the health of the Bronx River as part of International Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday.
Members of the Bronx River Alliance and Friends of Soundview Park, along with other community organizations, teamed up to clean up the river at Soundview Park.
Duties of the day included removing floating debris from the water, in an attempt to protect the posterity of wildlife and watercraft that use the river as a mode of transportation.
Volunteers say the Bronx River has long been viewed as an eyesore by visitors due to the litter scattered about.
Volunteers say the initiative has been going on for about five years now, and Saturday marked their highest-ever turnout.
