Thousands of volunteers from across the borough gathered Saturday to revitalize 46 local schools as a part of the 17th annual New York City Cares Day.
Corporate volunteers and Brooklyn students hit the schools early in the morning, paintbrushes in hand, to spruce up classrooms, and paint murals and outside walls.
Organizers of the event say over 8,000 volunteers donated the equivalent of $1 million worth of service at public schools throughout the city.
Besides giving schools makeovers, participants of the annual community service day also raise funds toward hosting next year?s revitalization day, as well as toward other New York Cares volunteer programs.
