News 12 is highlighting New York's 97th Assembly District as the November election nears.
The race will have new battle lines and decide a new Assembly member.
Eudson Tyson Francois is running as a Democrat. John McGowan has the Republican and Conservative party endorsement.
Both men are looking to win the seat being left vacant by Republican Mike Lawler, who is taking a shot at Congress.
Francois has called Spring Valley home since 1984 and is a former village trustee and a community advocate.
If elected, he plans to address housing by increasing paths to ownership, public safety by preventing illegal guns and education by improving oversight on funding.
McGowan, a lawyer, is currently serving as a Rockland County legislator.
He served as a prosecutor in Rockland and the Bronx.
The Republican says he would address bail reform and provide law enforcement the resources they need to do their jobs.
