Wake held for teen who died after discharge from hospital
Friends and family of a teen who unexpectedly died following two hospital visits gathered for his wake Thursday.
Iverson Bryce was admitted to SUNY Downstate Medical Center last week after complaining of chest pains.
Bryce's family says he was given a urine test and a recommendation to take Motrin. He was then cleared to go back to school.
Discharge papers provided by his family show a muscle strain as the diagnosis given by the hospital.
Bryce's sister claims he woke up feeling worse and an ambulance had to rush him to the emergency room.
"The last words that he said to me was like, he was like 'I'm dying, I'm dying,'" Regina Mickens, Bryce's sister, said.
Attendees held back tears for the boy who dreamed of being a chef one day. Bryce's family says they are taking action against SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
SUNY Downstate recently said in a statement, "We are legally prohibited from responding to questions regarding specifics of any patient and do not comment on litigation efforts."
The medical examiner's office says it's still investigating how Bryce died.
