More than 100 Waste Management workers have hit the picket line Monday, which could affect 10,000 businesses in Brooklyn and the city.
Representatives from two unions say Waste Management's current proposal calls for giving workers a 75 cents an hour raise but also eliminates overtime. In addition, the company wants workers to contribute more than $300 a month for health care. The workers say they did not want the negotiations to come to this but say they have tried everything to get Waste Management back to the bargaining table.
A spokesman for Waste Management said the company has arranged for replacement drivers and that no disruption to service is expected.
