Crews were working this morning to repair a water main break in Bed-Stuy that led to major flooding on Friday.

The flooding happened at the intersection of Howard and Putnam avenues. The sewer on the next corner captured most of the water and contained the flood to just one block.
FDNY Deputy Fire Chief Michael Grogan told News 12 it was all a result of a ruptured pipe connecting the fire hydrant to the water main.
The flooding caused the sidewalk to collapse in the area. At least two buildings have had their basements flooded from the pipe burst.

Both of the buildings were churches. One of them is located at the corner of where the pipe burst.
A massive hole can be seen taking up a large portion of the sidewalk and a chunk of the street. Traffic near the area is being diverted.

News 12 spoke with a pastor who says he hasn't been allowed to survey the damage himself. He told News 12 that emergency workers told him his basement was flooded with sewage water.
There is no official word on why the pipe burst. The block remains closed off to traffic as emergency workers repair the broken pipe.
Crews tell News 12 that they expect to be working on repairs throughout most of the day.
