Road crews shut down several streets in East New York today after a 12-inch water main ruptured this morning, flooding area homes. The break happened at around 9 a.m. near Ashford Street and Cozine Avenue. Crews worked for hours to replace the broken pipe. The Department of Environmental Protection says 50 homes were impacted by the main break, including 10 that sustained flood damage, with water and mud filling basements and toilets. Those homes can file claims with the New York State Comptroller's Office. Many area homes had their water shut off while work crews were repairing the pipe. Water was restored Wednesday evening, residents say.
