Tenants in Mott Haven are recovering after rain from Ida entered their apartments.

Demi Caballero says rain started to pour into her mother’s apartment around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

"It looked like a river," says Caballero.

"It was raining inside the house," says Demi's mother, Melba.

Floors throughout the building became flooded.

Caballero said she had to help her mother down several flights of stairs to get out of the building.

Another tenant told News 12 last night’s rainfall damaged many of her belongings.

According to Caballero, the manager of the building has failed to fix the leaks and holes that allowed the water into the apartments. 

Tenants in the building say they do not feel safe and will request a transfer to another building.

Their building has over 20 open violations from the Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

HPD told News 12 that have received a complaint about the leaks. They say the will attempt to do an inspection Thursday night.
