A shop inside City Point Brooklyn Mall closed for half a year due to health guidelines, but that hasn't slowed sales for Da Spot NYC.
Despite being closed for six months due to the pandemic, Da Spot NYC owners say business has been good.
They say they relied on e-commerce heavily during that time, with more than 100 new customers the first week the shop reopened.
"We want our store to be as open as our hearts, we want to spread love the Brooklyn way,” says owner and co-founder Tyler Jordan.
The shop sells streetwear, formal wear, art and vintage products. It started with a 100-square foot space in DUMBO, and now has a 1,000-square foot shop inside City Point Brooklyn Mall.
"We started with just three brands in shop and within six months we had 25 brands in shop, and today we've had at least 50 brands in shop,” says Michelle Cadore, owner and co-founder.
Da Spot NYC aims to provide visibility for creatives of color as well as build up the local community. It also uses its space for business panels and performances, which has continued after reopening.
"We had a housing seminar, where we were able to have an underwriter for Freddie Mac as well as a couple other people in real estate,” says Jordan
Since opening in April 2017, the business has been on a steady climb and wants to continue that momentum going forward.
