A family-owned store in the Bronx is hoping to drum up business after being closed for several months.
Masidi's Urban African Store is one of the few businesses in Kingsbridge specializing in African art, culture and traditions.
Cheick Conde, who is originally from Guinea, West Africa, started the business with his sister in the mid-1990s.
The store has been a mainstay on Broadway in Kingsbridge for 23 years selling Afrocentric clothing, antiques, jewelry, furniture, decorative ornaments and artwork.
Like many businesses forced to close during the pandemic, Masidi is trying to get back into the rhythm of things. Although business has been slow, Conde says they are there to serve the community.
Every item in the store represents one of the 54 countries in Africa. Conde says each of the African nations are made up of many tribes.
The store also provides hair braiding and community workshops geared toward African culture.
