Westchester County is unveiling a new comprehensive gun safety plan.
District Attorney Mimi Rocah announced a five-point plan to highlight how her office will ensure the state's new gun laws are used as effectively as possible.
The DA's plans include:
Getting guns off our streets by tracing the origins of seized weapons and sharing intelligence with local, county, state and federal law enforcement.
Continuing to aggressively investigate and prosecute crimes involving guns and gun violence.
Promoting red flag law education and safe firearm storage, like the newly signed county law requiring gun shops in Westchester to post warnings.
Early intervention by offering nonviolent misdemeanor offenders mental health services.
Working to combat extremism, specifically in the wake of the Buffalo supermarket shooting in which victims were targets of an alleged racist attack.
