The Westchester County SPCA of Westchester has advice on caring for your pets during this scorching summer heat.
"This week, if you touch the pavement, and it's hot to you, it's extremely hot for your dog putting their feet on that. So we're mainly walking them in the grass. We're limiting their time outside. We also have baby pools with lots of water. Lots of dogs like to cool themselves off," says Joanne Langman, of the Westchester County SPCA.
Langman says she got a call recently from someone asking about shaving their dog. They saw the dog panting and thought it might cool him off.
Langman does not recommend that as the fur coat insulates them from cold and hot temperatures and regulates their body temperatures.
