The New York Department of Sanitation has been out in full force. We actually talked to the commissioner who tells us that crews started around two this morning putting salt on the streets, highways and bike lanes in the city and they're monitoring the weather and the conditions as they require. They will use the 700 plus salt spreaders to tackle icy spots on the roads. But don't be worried if you don't see the plows, it's unlikely that New Yorkers will see plows on the streets today. Plow accumulation started about two inches of snow and I don't foresee us getting that in the city. Although if we do, we have thousands of plows at the ready for us. This is largely a salt spreading storm and the commissioner is urging New Yorkers to use caution on the roads like Samantha was mentioning and the sidewalks too. She says many sidewalks had a lot of ice from that weather we got earlier this week. Remember, sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owners. Once the precipitation ends, we really need the property owners to step up and do their part for this storm and make sure that when the precipitation ends that those sidewalks are passable for New Yorkers. So there you heard her take care of snow and ice both for yourself and others. So you can also avoid getting a ticket too because the commissioner says in the 1st 48 hours after Tuesday's storm, a team of enforcement agents wrote about 4000 summonses across the five boroughs and some more advice too. You must create a clear path at least 4 ft wide. And don't forget the fire hydrants, pedestrian ramps and bus stops.
