Some Cobble Hill students are being dubbed super recyclers after winning an award for being environmentally friendly.
The P.S. 29 kids received the Golden Apple award as TrashMasters! from the Department of Sanitation for their recycling program.
The students set up recycling bins in every classroom, and then sorted and audited the contents of the containers. The team tracked how much waste and recycling the school collected, and found that within a year they reduced waste collection by more than 20 percent.
Along with the award, the school received a $10,000 check for their efforts. School administrators are deciding how to spend the money, but they do plan to purchase new recycling bins.
