Despite the persistent clouds all day Thursday, expect a dry evening as the clouds have prevented any storms from popping up. Rain eventually returns after midnight with moderate bursts of rain likely just in time for the morning commute.
The worst of the storm will be between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., with lingering showers through about 10 a.m. The morning commute will see impacts, with ponding likely on the sides of the roads, sidewalks, and plenty of standing water in potholes. The sun attempts to poke through the clouds starting midday but expect some clouds to linger all day. The sun and cloud mix will help temperatures get back to the upper-60s around 5 p.m., but it gets much colder quite quickly Friday night. Temperatures tumble from 67 degrees at 5 p.m. to 47 degrees Saturday at 5 a.m. This comes with more scattered rain showers by sunrise Saturday.
It will be a cold, raw, and dreary Saturday, with on-and-off light rain showers. An isolated downpour can't be ruled out. It will be in the 40s all day long, feeling more like an early March day. There will be a brief break in the rain Saturday night and Sunday morning, allowing temperatures to spike once again. The wild temperature swings continue as it will go from the upper-40s at night to the low-70s by midday Sunday. Another thunderstorm chance is expected Sunday afternoon and evening, with colder weather following suit to start the workweek next week.
Details remain limited on the Sunday storm chance but check back for hyperlocal weekend forecast updates and follow News 12 Storm Watch Team Meteorologist Allan Nosoff @AWxNYC on social media. The colder weather early next week will be significantly colder by Wednesday, as temperatures could fall below freezing at night and feeling even colder with the wind. High temperatures will struggle to reach the upper-40s, feeling like closer to just 40 degrees.
