Students and staff from the Williamsburg Charter High School took to the streets of Brooklyn Wednesday to call for an end to youth gun violence.

They marched from the school to Gilbert Ramirez Park, where students and staff called for more protection from the city and shared what they want to done to make their school safer. They also shared their memories of a day many of them want to forget.

Shots were fired outside of Williamsburg Charter High School in February, leaving a 15-year-old student, a 17-year-old student, and a 37-year-old injured with gunshot wounds.

"No mother or father or grandparents should have to hear their child will not come home after school," said Renee de Lyon, academic counselor at the charter school.

The principal also spoke out at the march, saying that their school is not the only one that needs this attention, and that this stance is for schools across the country.

There is an online petition circulating that demands more support from police, additional funding for emotional support in schools and new after-school programs and jobs for kids.
