A Williamsburg music studio is thriving after being damaged by Superstorm Sandy.
Tamas Vajda opened Savaria Studios in Gowanus in 2006, but Sandy washed away the space and temporarily silenced his dream of making music.
"I caught a lot of water damage in the facility," he says.
Entire rooms full of equipment were damaged beyond repair. But the drive to help artists rehearse and record music fueled a new space to come alive in Williamsburg.
Now reopened with 50 spaces for emerging artists, many say they are grateful to have found a reliable studio where they can create new work.
"It was very difficult at the time, but we came back stronger," Vajda says.
