Advocates for the Bike lane are pushing back. Transportation Alternatives argues that removing the lane will force cyclists back into traffic — increasing the risk of serious injuries or fatalities.
According to the Department of Transportation, injuries on the bike path are down more than 12% since the safety project was implemented, and pedestrian injuries are down nearly 40% in the same timeframe.
Those statistics do not include incidents in Williamsburg, where some families say the danger remains high.
