The NYPD says a woman's window was smashed in Pelham Parkway during Passover, and police are investigating the situation as a hate crime.
Authorities say a man was caught on surveillance video throwing a concrete slab through Rochelle Shapiro’s second-floor window on Matthews Avenue during Passover last Friday.
"There's this violent attack in my home, and this neighborhood, which I’ve lived in for 60 years, in this apartment for 60 years, has never had a hate crime perpetrated on anybody here,” Shapiro said.
Shapiro’s window that was destroyed had a sign reading, "Wherever we stand, we stand with Israel" alongside an Israeli flag. The flag was not damaged.
"This is a high holiday, it's the freedom of the Jews,” she added. “It is the freedom of the Jews from slavery."
Shapiro told News 12 she plans on replacing the flag with an even bigger one.
