Gusty
winds downed a tree onto two parked cars in Sunset Park Sunday.
Emergency
crews were called to the scene on 62nd Street between 2nd and 3rd avenues at
around 8 p.m.
Doris Velis, whose car was crushed, says she’s just happy that no one was
inside the vehicle at the time.
“All of a sudden,
I thought the garbage cans were rolling down the driveway. It was loud - really loud,” Velis says.
“I realized it wasn’t the garbage cans.”
The
FDNY says it responded, made sure no one was hurt and notified the Parks
Department, which will be in
charge of removing the tree.
News
12 is told nobody was hurt.
The
Parks Department arrived to the scene to remove the tree at 9 a.m. Monday.
Neighbor
Alice Nunes says she has been complaining about trees for eight years and that branches have been falling on
cars when its windy.
The Parks Department tells News 12 the tree was inspected in September 2020.
