Witnesses say several people were taken into custody by federal agents across Suffolk County Wednesday morning, including one man outside a Colombian bakery in Hampton Bays.

A worker at Antojitos on Montauk Highway told News 12 they saw two men grab a person walking down the street, handcuff him in front of the bakery and drive off.

Video provided by a witness shows what appear to be federal agents detaining the man around 8 a.m.

One of the officers is seen pushing the person recording the incident before the man is placed into a black van and taken away.

People in the area say the arrests have left many in the community afraid

“I agree when people may have some criminal records or something like that, I agree with that,” one resident said. “But when people are just working, it’s a little bit unfair.”

The group Islip Forward tracks Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity across Long Island and says it received reports of at least eight ICE arrests between 6:30 a.m. and noon near the Hampton Bays area.

News 12 has reached out to ICE for details about the reported arrests, but a response is unlikely amid the ongoing federal government shutdown.
