A Brownsville mom is accusing the NYPD of wrongfully taking her son into custody, a claim the NYPD denies.

The mother of 16-year-old Laronne Chance is calling for action after she says her son was violently removed from a city bus on his way home from a school basketball game. She says the officers came to break up a fight that was no longer happening and started attacking her son and his 17-year-old friend. The woman says officers placed her son into the back of a police car and took him to the 81st Precinct.

Police, however, paint a different picture of the events. Police tell News 12 that they got a call last Wednesday about a group of teens fighting. They say when they arrived some of the teens boarded an MTA bus, which is why the officers followed.

According to police, Chance aggressively approached one of the officers. They say when the officer tried to take Chance into custody, his friend tried to stop police from exiting the bus.

The NYPD says both teens were released to their parents.

Chance's mom says she and members of the community plan to rally in front of the 81st Precinct on Thursday.
