Police say a bus matron was arrested Friday for allegedly leaving a special needs student in her care on a frigid bus overnight.
Police say 51-year-old Linda Hockaday was taken into custody and charged with reckless endangerment after Ed Rivera, 22, was discovered Thursday morning sitting on a parked bus with his seat belt still on.
Rivera, who suffers from cerebral palsy, was taken Brookdale Hospital for evaluation. His body temperature was lower than normal and he was dehydrated, but he is expected to recover.
?He was cold, he was very cold,? says Rivera?s sister, Leslie Rivera. ?His fingertips were blue, his feet were blue. His nose...he was very, very pale.?
Rivera?s parents reported him missing Wednesday evening after he did not return from his Manhattan day care center. Police searched the facility and surrounding area, but didn't find him. Since Rivera cannot speak, he could not alert the bus matron to his presence.
Family members say they plan to confront officials at Rivera?s day care facility regarding their emergency protocols.
