A 55-year-old woman has died after she was pulled from the water at Manhattan Beach in Brooklyn on Monday evening, according to police.
Video from the scene shows first responders performing CPR on the sand before EMS took her to Coney Island Hospital. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police say it’s not yet clear if her death was a drowning. The medical examiner will determine the official cause.
This comes just days after another deadly water incident at a Brooklyn beach. On Aug. 6, an 18-year-old was pulled from the water at Coney Island Beach, near the Cyclone. He did not survive.
With two serious beach emergencies in less than a week, city officials are reminding people to:
- Swim only when lifeguards are on duty
- Never swim alone — always have a buddy
- Pay attention to beach flags and signs, which can warn about dangerous conditions like rip currents
Police say this remains an active investigation.
